The Operations team play a key role in the management of the activities that make DSI a success. The main emphasis of the operations team is supporting researchers at DSI (staff and students) to achieve their maximum potential. Project funding is essential to the long-term viability of DSI and this is reflected in a strong focus on the project life-cycle from acquisition to successful completion. Within the ops team the finance function provides timely, and accurate reports for internal and external requirements, financial planning and services support to funding applications, individual project management reports, business development pipeline management and resource planning. The activities of the technical team are essential to the successful 24/7 operation of the IT infrastructure of DSI. They include activities such as equipment requirements planning, ordering, installing, maintenance and record keeping, coordination of technical infrastructure - including an extensive server farm, backup service and disaster recovery, multi-project security set up, maintenance of the institute's web site, distribution lists and other services. The general administrative team provides key services such as hiring support, newcomer & leaver procedures, visitor and intern procedures, travel planning and management, report preparation, GRC coordination, central contact point function, office supply procurement, and office space admin and maintenance. The grant management function provides support in identifying appropriate funding calls, preparation of proposals, negotiation. This function also provides essential support in the coordination of periodic project reports and deliverables. The Scientific Engagement Associate is responsible for raising public awareness and the understanding of DSI science, technologies and research with particular focus on the important role it plays in society. A key part of the role is to encourage the public to get involved and interact with science and technology. They co-ordinate, organise and participate in a wide range of activities locally, nationally and internationally, working together with Insight researchers at NUI Galway and across partner institutions.
