The Unit for Natural Language Processing (UNLP) at the Data Science Institute of the National University of Ireland Galway develops methods for the efficient application of NLP approaches in real-life use cases. UNLP is funded by Science Foundation Ireland through grants for the Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics and the SFI Centre for Research Training in AI, as well as by the EU, Enterprise Ireland and industry. Our research has a focus on areas such as knowledge extraction from text, social media analysis, machine translation and AI for good as well as data-to-text generation and causal reasoning in text. Our demonstrator systems provide readily available tools for knowledge graph extraction from text (Saffron), machine translation for under-resourced languages (IRIS, Asistent), chatbot development (Grumpy Bot) and multilingual lexical semantic knowledge (Polylingual WordNet).
